The Fairholme Range extends over the area north of Canmore to Lake Minnewanka, with its corner points defined by Mount Inglismaldie in the west, Mount Yamnuska in the SE and End Mountain in the NE. It includes such famous and popular mountains as Grotto Mountain and Mount Lady MacDonald. But beyond these well-known peaks, the area also offers an amazing variety of untouched terrain and rarely ascended summits to explore. It never ceases to amaze me how many unknown mountains there are in this region, most of them accessible from the Trans-Canada Highway in only an hour’s drive from Calgary. Many will require a lengthy approach and at least 10 hours or more to complete in a day, but it’s well worth the effort.
