Canada, my current home, is also home to some of the most spectacular mountains on Earth – the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Opportunities for hiking, scrambling, rock/ice climbing, backpacking and exploring unchartered territory are endless. And if you’re lucky to live in the middle of it all, or at least close by (like I do), then the mountains are your natural backyard just a step away. Every weekend can be an adventure – if only you venture out and make it happen.
Since I live in Calgary and the closest mountains are only 45 minutes from my house (e.g. Mount Baldy, Yamnuska), most of my trips are from this area. But look beyond Kananaskis, Banff, Jasper and Waterton, and there are a myriad of excellent mountain adventures to be had in many lesser-known areas. An adventurer’s dream!
